A Sneak Preview of the World’s First Wireless OLED TV

Tech Reviews

Imagine buying a TV, mounting it on the wall, and having it start working remotely without any wires thanks to an accompanying wireless receiver box grouping together all the connected peripherals. Amazing, right?

We’re talking about the LG M3, a 97-inch OLED TV by LG Electronics that features Zero Connect technology, which brings to the surface both present and futuristic inventions. The TV works together with an accompanying box capable of transmitting audio and video signals of up to 4K and at 120Hz.

The fact that the TV is 100 percent wireless makes its surrounding environment much less cluttered than before, as the box can be placed up to four meters away and still work properly. The box is connected to various peripheral devices that allow users to watch certain types of content or play games, such as set-top boxes, hard disks, Blu-ray players, and game consoles. Additionally, the box can connect to a soundbar wirelessly.

To achieve the first-ever total wireless mode in a TV, LG Electronics has developed an algorithm that identifies the optimal transmission path and adapts it in real time to the situation. If an individual passes between the TV and the box, the signal will not be affected.

Furthermore, the Zero Box is equipped with voice recognition, which means that users can turn on and off all connected devices without having to get up. LG’s wireless TV achieves its goal seamlessly, and at a high enough level that makes it hard to ignore for serious cord-haters with enough money.

The LG M3 itself is a relatively simple, minimalist affair, as it is intended to be. The design is clean and uncluttered, with a relatively thin-framed screen on a two-legged easel stand. The power cable can unnoticeably run down and out of one of the legs. The screen also has an integrated wall-mount bracket, so it can sit against a wall if you prefer.

It boasts a 4K OLED panel and Alpha 9 processor, is 75 percent brighter than the entry-level B3 OLED in its 77-inch size (or 30 percent in its 83-inch and 97-inch sizes), and has generous support for HDR formats (including Dolby Vision), Dolby Atmos, and all the latest gaming features.
