18 Students Get Varsity Scholarships from Tata Chemicals

Eighteen Students have received full University Scholarships from Tata Chemicals Magadi of up to Ksh 280,000 each.

 

The beneficiaries of the Tata Chemical Magadi’s Tertiary scholarship programme are drawn from the Magadi community group ranches Oldonyonyokie, Shompole, Olkiramatian and Olkeri and the larger Kajiado County.

 

The fully paid scholarships will enable the Eighteen university students from the Maasai Community in Kajiado to pursue various degrees in the arts and sciences in several universities across the country.

 

Tata Chemicals Magadi scholarships programme has provided more than 300 students with access to quality education since its inception in 1984.

 

The beneficiaries are drawn from the Magadi community and the larger Kajiado County through a competitive and fair selection process that involves both the management and the community leaders. The positive impact of the company’s work in driving the community development agenda is embedded in the trong ties it has built with the community, and its partnerships with like minded organizations and government institutions.

 

These strong partnerships have resulted in win-win relationships for the company and the community witnessing continuous improvement in the quality of life. The company believes in elevating the lives of people in the community, noting that education is the single most powerful means to change the lives of the Maa Community.

 

The bursaries presentation ceremony was graced by The Chairman of the Education committee, Dr. Stephen Moiko who is also an alumni beneficiary of the program.

 

“The company has committed resources consistently over three decades now to support education in Kenya because they have seen and believe in changing the future of the country by transforming young men and women into substantive leaders, workers, good family members.”

he said.

 

Dr. Moiko also encouraged the youth to use their time wisely in school to learn more appropriate skills and prepare for success in life by going beyond dependency in employment by taking advantage of the many opportunities presented by the growth in Kenya and the region.

 

The company Managing Director Mr. Subodh Srivastav congratulated the beneficiaries, urging them to take this opportunity to learn and improve the quality of lives of people in their community.

 

He encouraged the students to ensure that they build and adhere to strong values for success including being bold, innovative, and enterprising for their personal success and to use their knowledge to elevate the standards of life in the community and country.
